The Beginning

A Desert Love Story

What is now The Good House began as Hacienda Hot Springs Inn — a desert gem tucked into the Miracle Hill District of Desert Hot Springs, where naturally heated mineral waters flow from deep underground.

2003

A Vision Takes Root

William Dailey, a Los Angeles rare book dealer, purchased the property — inspired by a decades-long love affair with the desert. He saw magic in the mineral waters and envisioned a sanctuary for guests seeking rest and renewal.

Gardens

Bettina Birch Shapes the Land

Landscape designer Bettina Birch was brought on to create gardens integrating terrain, stonework, and water features with sustainable native flora. Her vision turned the property grounds into a living desert oasis.

2017

A Passing & A Legacy

William Dailey passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a property infused with his care and passion for the desert landscape.

2020

The Good House Is Born

The property underwent a thoughtful renovation and rebranding — featuring kitchenette and bathroom remodels, a brand new food & beverage program, and the introduction of the spa. The Good House emerged as a seven-room Spanish-style boutique hotel celebrating its hot spring heritage.
